Context

NITB builds digital services for federal ministries. I designed interfaces and campaigns for several of them, each with its own audience and tone, and NITB’s developers built the interfaces. At the Ministry of Maritime Affairs I also headed the digital design team.

MoFA dashboard

A dashboard for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to track social media activity and engagement across its missions, on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. It went live, and MoFA’s staff used it to follow the missions’ accounts.

The MoFA dashboard with Twitter selected. A column of posts from the ministry’s spokesperson, with the selected post highlighted in blue. Beside it, that post’s likes, views and engagement, and a list of each mission’s status. On the right, a March 2021 calendar and the total likes, shares and engagement.

Ministry of IT and Telecom website

News, the complaint cell, publications, policies, featured projects and national telecom statistics in one structure. The hard part was approvals: every change went through several layers of ministry sign-off.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom home page. A green header with the state emblem, then a news slider about the launch of a disaster recovery centre, and cards for the Prime Minister, Federal Minister and Federal Secretary. Below, a tabbed panel for the complaint cell, publications, policies, legislation, PSDP projects and jobs, the latest news, featured projects, a green band of telecom subscriber numbers, a gallery, the ministry’s tweets and a footer of links.

  1. 1The complaint cell, publications, policies, legislation, development projects and jobs share one tabbed panel.
  2. 2National telecom figures get a band of their own.

City Islamabad app

The app has been through several redesigns. I designed its ICT services grid, and the developers built it.

Explaining a process

Step by step guides, such as paying government dues through 1LINK by mobile banking or at an ATM, and registering for a COVID-19 vaccine.

A guide to paying government dues through 1LINK. Two methods, by mobile banking app and by ATM, are each drawn as a road that turns back on itself, with six numbered, coloured steps along it.

On the right, the process for all healthcare workers from 22 February 2021. Each has numbered steps, and the guide ends with covid.gov.pk.

What working in government taught me

Every ministry had its own audience and tone. Across all of them, the work was turning complex public data into visuals and content a general audience could follow.
